11 Year Update for Chuck’s Hip Resurfacing with Dr. Gross 2008

Hip Resurfacing and Total Hip Replacement at Hips for You Posted on August 9, 2019 by pwalterAugust 9, 2019

Read Chuck’s original hip resurfacing story here: https://surfacehippy.info/chuck-hip-resurfacing-dr-gross-2008-biomet/

I am 11 years 2 days post op hip resurfacing today with Dr. Gross from 2008.  I received an uncemented biomet hip resurfacing device that Dr. Gross designed himself, at the time uncemented was fairly new but it made sense to me.  The surgery was pretty easy, I was up and walking that morning, 6 weeks post op I played 18 holes of golf with my buddies and I beat them all which they have never lived down.

If you’re in pain, don’t wait to have a hip resurfacing, it was one of my best decisions although I waited too long.…

My hip has treated me very well. I hope it continues this path !!!
Best decision ever!

I am back to doing everything that I was doing before.

15 Year Update Joyce’s Hip Resurfacing with Dr. Gross 2004

Dr. Gross resurfaced my left hip in 2004. That’s 15 years! So far, so good. I had my right hip resurfaced at the University of KY in 2010. That one, too, is good. I am soon to be 71 years old and though other things ache, my hips do not. So glad I made the hip resurfacing choice.…

3 Year Update Kingrob’s Hip Resurfacing Dr. Gross

Hip Resurfacing and Total Hip Replacement at Hips for You Posted on November 12, 2018 by pwalterNovember 12, 2018

November 27, 2018  I had my right hip resurfaced the day before Thanksgiving 2015 by Dr. Gross. I could not be any happier with the results to this point. I went almost 10 years with bone on bone in my right hip and had a very noticeable limp for years before getting the HR. The only cardio I could do during this period was the stationary bike. This surgery was life changing for me.

When I was finally able to start running 6 months after surgery I knew I would have a lot of issues with other than my hip. The last time I was able to run was 2006 – I was 42. I managed to run in several 5k’s by the end of 2016 pain free. My training was only once or twice a week of running with some work in the …

Chris’s Hip Resurfacing with Dr. Gross 2018

Hip Resurfacing and Total Hip Replacement at Hips for You Posted on November 6, 2018 by pwalterNovember 6, 2018

I’ve gotten so much value out of Pat’s Surface Hippy site over the past 4 years, that I felt compelled to give some back now that I just had my left hip resurfaced a little less than 2 weeks ago by Dr. Gross. I’m not quite sure what to put in my story so if I am covering things that are not important and omitting things that are, please just let me know and I’m happy to provide any details.

I just turned 53 back in September of this year but my hip story starts almost 5 years ago. I’ve been very physically active since my young 20’s. Nothing crazy but consistent in moderate weight lifting, daily elliptical (about 30 mins daily at high intensity), daily walking of between 2-5 miles, and very obsessive tennis playing on hard courts as a competitive recreational player. The tennis routine involved hitting …

3 Year Update for Blinky’s Bilateral Hip Resurfacing with Dr. Gross 2015

Hip Resurfacing and Total Hip Replacement at Hips for You Posted on October 22, 2018 by pwalterOctober 22, 2018

Read Blinky’s Original Story Here

It’s my hippiversary! Three years for hip number two. Time for a review. The short version? It has been great. I run, swim, cycle, dance, jump, climb, sit cross legged, everything. More than last year with more to come this year.

The long version:

I can officially say I have exceeded all my expectations, even the secret ones I didn’t dare say out loud. Going into surgery, I was nervous but eager, wanting to lose the pain and the loss of motion. By “loss of motion” I mean not being able to move much, like not walk very far at all anymore. I was one of those people who kept on keeping on even as I got more crooked and slower and caused people who were watching me to stop and offer assistance.

I remember in the meeting with Dr Gross the day before the …

Maggic’s Hip Resurfacing with Dr. Gross 2009

Hip Resurfacing and Total Hip Replacement at Hips for You Posted on October 3, 2018 by pwalterOctober 3, 2018

September 26, 2009

Dr Gross did 1st hip Aug 31 and 2nd Sept 2, discharged from hospital Sept 4.  No real pain post op but uncomfortable from swelling for about four days. About six days on crutches, then about four or five days on single cane. Last week to ten days full weight bearing and walking up to approx one mile per day plus activities of daily living in a multi-level house.  Just a great procedure and a really good surgeon, I am a doc, so I don’t say that lightly. Back to work on Monday, 4 weeks postop.

Luz’s Hip Resurfacing with Dr. Gross 2014

Hip Resurfacing and Total Hip Replacement at Hips for You Posted on September 16, 2018 by pwalterSeptember 16, 2018

January 12, 2014

Just had hip resurfacing surgery on LHASA with Dr. Gross on 1-6-14. Having a difficult time with my physical limitations.

I am just overwhelmed and whining some.  I stopped taking the pain meds yesterday ( day 5) as they were making me nauseous and the only time I was feeling pain was when standing and sitting.  I switched to Tylenol x-tra strength every 5 hours and that is helping.

January 20, 2014

I’m a 51 year old female who has been super active and fit since my teen years.  I have played tennis, but had to give it up, moved on to road cycling and finally had to give that up this past summer.  The only thing I could still do with minor pain was ballroom dancing and some yoga. I was diagnosed with LHOA around 4 years ago and the only option I was always given …

10 Year and 2 Month Update John C’s Bilateral Hip Resurfacing with Dr. Gross 2008

Hip Resurfacing and Total Hip Replacement at Hips for You Posted on July 6, 2018 by pwalterJuly 6, 2018

Read John’s Full Hip Resurfacing Story Here

Last week was the 10 year anniversary on my left hip, and this week I hit the 2 month mark on the right.
All the old timers on here have heard my story too many times, so they can feel free to skip this, but for any newbies on the site, here is my story.

I am a sports instructor year round, teaching high level skiing all day every day all winter, and teaching windsurfing during the summers, with lots of surfing and tennis thrown in. Dr Gross said at the time that I would be a good case study to see how the new hip would hold up. My hip from 10 years ago has worked out great, though I was not the fastest healer over the first couple of months. After some trochanteric bursitis from playing tennis at the one year …
