At Florida Orthopaedic Specialists we offer the latest technological treatments for total hip replacement, the Muscle Sparring method. This procedure requires NO muscle or tendon detachment, and the incision length is approximately 3-4 ½ inches instead of the usual 12-15 inches with a traditional hip replacement surgery. On the day of, my husband came with me & kept me company until it was time. I was soooo nervous, of course. But I have to say, everyone involved in every step were absolutely fantastic. I waited in the wait room for an hour, then was moved in the pre op, where I changed into the beeeeaautiful gown, I had the line put in, was given various pills. My surgeon came over to say hi & autograph my leg. He then asked if I’d be willing to consent to having photos taken of me during the surgery. It’s good to show where the dollars went, the donors will see the equipment & then photos to show how they were used.…
After 18 months waiting “in the queue”, Brad was informed that his condition had changed and he’d have to start the process over again. He decided he couldn’t wait any longer; he wanted his previous, mobile and active life back. He visited www.timelymedical.ca and Rick Baker connected him with Dr. Kassman. A total hip replacement was scheduled and surgery was performed within a few months. Four days after the surgery he was walking without aids and today, he’s resuming the lifestyle he remembers.
Tom Glass is as humble in his assessment of his accomplishments as he is when describing the physical toll it took on his body. His partial resume includes more than forty major awards and victories in over 35 years of racing. He was the Calgary Stampede Rangeland Derby Champion in 1983, 1987, 1992, and 1994, the Stampede Aggregate Winner in 1987 and 1998 and the World Champion Chuckwagon Driver in 1980, 1981, and 1988. For those who aren’t familiar with Chuckwagon racing, it’s like a demolition derby except that instead of sitting behind the wheel of an aging muscle car, these athletes sit atop a wooden bench and muscle four of the world’s most powerful animals through maze of turns against eight other wagons. It’s a controlled runaway and all the driver has to manage it with are a fistful of reigns and the power in his legs, arms and back.
Retired doctor Stephen Reed, 69 of Wiscasset, completed his 28th consecutive Boston Marathon on Patriot’s Day. Reed had a total hip replacement of his left hip in July. After taking a few months off from running to recover, he was back pounding the pavement training for his favorite race…
