Hi everyone I am a 45 year old Canadian waiting for a partial hip replacement for avascular necrosis.  This has been going on for almost 2 years and I am so anxious to get it done and be on the road to healing and back to my normal life.  The current waiting list is 6 months! Angry  It used to be a year!  I am scared, I am a nurse so my medical mind is working overtime.  Looking forward to know ing everyone.   Grin

Hi

6 months gives you a lot of time to be nervous.  Many of us have had their hips replaced and are doing great.  I had my hip resurfacing 4 years ago and could not be happier or more active.  It is great to be out of pain and living life again.

You just need to concentrate on the positive.  Being a nurse does not help because you know all the negatives along with the positives.  More negatives than most.  Still, you need to think about being out of pain and active again.

I just wanted to say hi and stay positive.

Hi Deb!   Oh golly,  sorry to hear about your hip problem.  Are you able to work
while you are waiting?  That must be very difficult for you!
I am also relatively new here....I am booked for a THR on March 1!!!   Yikes!!!!!!!
I live in Maine.  The local orthopods are so busy here that my wait time for an appt.
was three months, but when you finally get their attention, you have it!
The assistant I saw on Thursday said that they are now booking appts. into September.
Well anyway, I am looking forward to everything going well.
The doc thinks I partly dislocated my hip...it kind of rolled out and then back into place
when I was exercising.  Ouch.  It sure has been a bugger!
About all I can do now is sit....  Well, I saw your post and wanted to say hi.
Pat is just wonderful and so knowledgeable!  She has helped me a LOT in gathering info.
Well,  about all there is left to do now is have tea and eat a cookie, lol.
Take care!  This website has a lot of information and support for us!
Glad you found it!     Wink

Hi susan Congrats on your surgery date!  I am so glad that I found this site.  I am a RN and have been unable to work for 2 years Cry , my pain has been keeping me from working.  I see the surgeon next week and hopefully I can be moved upp on the cue.  Sitting hurts, so it is standing or lying for me.  My job is also in jeopardy because they only hold it for a certain period of time.  I am reading lots of nnovels and watching way too much tv.  The laptop is nice too.  Good luck to you!!!!  Keep us posted!

Hi again, Deb,
It is painful for you...so sorry!
Well,  I am starting to take some supplements that are recommended in order
to gear up for this.  I went right to the better ones so as to bypass the aggravation
of ones that cause upset.  I'll do my best with them--
I'm sending you and Pat a cyber scone and tea!!!  Let's all have some!
Take care.   Grin  susygray.

The surgeon phoned me the other day and wants to do a total hip now.  He has been reading some studies and conversing with his colleagues and they think this is the best solution.  With the partial I would need surgery again within the next ten years.  It will also be better with the pain reduction.  That is all for now.  I feel good about all of this now just the wait.  I told him I couldn't imagine waiting another 5 months, and he said we will see you soon, so maybe......... Grin
Cheers

Hi Deb--

I just read your post about probably have a total hip vs the other.
I DO hope you get seen soon!

Oh golly--I am getting close to my surgery date.  I heard some things that concerned
me so I need to do some fast info gathering...about the hospital, not the doc or
procedure.  I hope I don't have to bail but will....I just can feel that I am losing ground
quickly now.  I guess I waited too long for a variety of reasons...

Thinking of you!   Cool
